When Enough Is Enough

A time comes in your life when you finally get it — when, in the midst of all your fears and insanity, you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere the voice inside your head cries out "ENOUGH!" Enough fighting and crying or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after a blind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and begin to look at the world through new eyes. This is your awakening.

You realize it's time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change or for happiness, safety, and security to come galloping over the next horizon.

You come to terms with the fact that you are neither Prince Charming nor Cinderella. And that, in the real world, there aren't always fairy-tale endings (or beginnings, for that matter). And that any guarantee of "happily ever after" must begin with you — and in the process, a sense of serenity is born of acceptance.

You awaken to the fact that you are not perfect and that not everyone will always love, appreciate, or approve of who or what you are...and that's OK. They are entitled to their own views and opinions.

And you learn the importance of loving and championing yourself — and in the process, a sense of new-found confidence is born of self-approval. You stop complaining and blaming other people for the things they did to you (or didn't do for you) and you learn that the only thing you can really count on is the unexpected.

You learn that people don't always say what they mean or mean what they say, and that not everyone will always be there for you, and that it's not always about you. So you learn to stand on your own and to take care of yourself — and in the process, a sense of safety and security is born of self-reliance.

You stop judging and pointing fingers and you begin to accept people as they are and overlook their shortcomings and human frailties — and in the process, a sense of peace and contentment is born of forgiveness.

You realize that much of the way you view yourself and the world around you is as a result of all the messages and opinions that have been ingrained into your psyche. And you begin to sift through all the junk you've been fed about how you should behave, how you should look, how much you should weigh, what you should wear, what you should do for a living, how much money you should make, what you should drive, how and where you should live, who you should marry, the importance of having and raising children, and what you owe your parents, family, and friends.

You learn to open up to new worlds and different points of view. And you begin reassessing and redefining who you are and what you really stand for. You learn the difference between wanting and needing and you begin to discard the doctrines and values you've outgrown, or should never have bought into to begin with — and in the process, you learn to go with your instincts.

You learn that it is truly in giving that we receive. And that there is power and glory in creating and contributing and you stop maneuvering through life merely as a "consumer" looking for your next fix.

You learn that principles such as honesty and integrity are not the outdated ideals of a bygone era but the mortar that holds together the foundation upon which you must build a life.

You learn that you don't know everything, it's not your job to save the world and that you can't teach a pig to sing.

You learn to distinguish between guilt and responsibility and the importance of setting boundaries and learning to say NO. You learn that the only cross to bear is the one you choose to carry and that martyrs get burned at the stake.

Then you learn about love. How to love, how much to give in love, when to stop giving and when to walk away.

You learn to look at relationships as they really are and not as you would have them be. You stop trying to control people, situations, and outcomes. And you learn that alone does not mean lonely.

You also stop working so hard at putting your feelings aside, smoothing things over and ignoring your needs.

You learn that feelings of entitlement are perfectly OK, and that it is your right to want things and to ask for the things you want — and that sometimes it is necessary to make demands.

You come to the realization that you deserve to be treated with love, kindness, sensitivity, and respect — and you won't settle for less.

And you learn that your body really is your temple. And you begin to care for it and treat it with respect. You begin to eat a balanced diet, drink more water, and take more time to exercise.

You learn that being tired fuels doubt, fear, and uncertainty and so you take more time to rest. And, just as food fuels the body, laughter fuels our soul. So you take more time to laugh and to play.

You learn that, for the most part, you get in life what you believe you deserve — and that much of life truly is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You learn that anything worth achieving is worth working for and that wishing for something to happen is different from working toward making it happen.

More importantly, you learn that in order to achieve success you need direction, discipline, and perseverance.

You also learn that no one can do it all alone -- and that it's OK to risk asking for help. You learn the only thing you must truly fear is the greatest robber baron of all: FEAR itself.

You learn to step right into and through your fears because you know that whatever happens you can handle it and to give in to fear is to give away the right to live life on your own terms. And you learn to fight for your life and not to squander it living under a cloud of impending doom.

You learn that life isn't always fair, you don't always get what you think you deserve, and that bad things sometimes happen to unsuspecting, good people. On these occasions you learn to not personalize things. You learn that God isn't punishing you or failing to answer your prayers. It's just life happening. And you learn to deal with evil in its most primal state — the ego.

You learn that negative feelings such as anger, envy, and resentment must be understood and redirected or they will suffocate the life out of you and poison the universe that surrounds you.

You learn to admit when you are wrong and to build bridges instead of walls.

You learn to be thankful and to take comfort in many of the simple things we take for granted, things that millions of people upon the earth can only dream about: a full refrigerator, clean running water, a soft warm bed, a long hot shower.

Slowly, you begin to take responsibility for yourself by yourself and you make yourself a promise to never betray yourself and to never, ever settle for less than your heart's desire.

And you hang a wind chime outside your window so you can listen to the wind. And you make it a point to keep smiling, to keep trusting, and to stay open to every wonderful possibility.

Finally, with courage in your heart and God by your side, you take a stand, you take a deep breath, and you begin to design as best you can the life you want to live.

A Nobel Prize-winning scientist who provoked a public outcry by claiming black Africans were less intelligent than whites has a DNA profile with up to 16 times more genes of black origin than the average white European.
An analysis of the genome of James Watson showed that 16 per cent of his genes were likely to have come from a black ancestor of African descent. By contrast, most people of European descent would have no more than 1 per cent.
"This level is what you would expect in someone who had a great-grandparent who was African," said Kari Stefansson of deCODE Genetics, whose company carried out the analysis. "It was very surprising to get this result for Jim."
The findings were made available after Dr Watson became only the second person to publish his fully sequenced genome online earlier this year. Dr Watson was forced to resign his post as head of a research laboratory in New York shortly after triggering an international furore by questioning the comparative intelligence of Africans. In an interview during his recent British book tour, the American scientist said he was "inherently gloomy about the prospects for Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really".
The Science Museum in London cancelled a lecture by him, while the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, branded his comments "racist propaganda".
Other scientists working in the field of molecular biology quickly distanced themselves from the comments, saying that it was not possible to draw such conclusions from the work that had been done on DNA.
The study of the DNA of Dr Watson – who shared the 1962 Nobel Prize for medicine – adds another twist to the controversy surrounding the American scientist's comments.

Apparently, Beyonce's flirtation with country music didn't stop with her American Music Awards appearance last week with the band Sugarland. RTE Entertainment is reporting that Beyoncé loved their reworking of her pop hit "Irreplaceable" so much that she's now hoping to record an entire album of country music to follow up her current CD, "B'Day."

"Beyoncé wants to try something completely different," a source close to the singer tells RTE. "She is a big fan of country music and thought that would be an interesting and exciting way to go."

According to RTE, Beyonce has reportedly hit up award winning singer/songwriter Amanda Ghost - the creative force behind James Blunt's hit "You're Beautiful" - for the project.

"She contacted Amanda early this week and she is going over to work with her on it," the source is quoted as saying.

People magazine is reporting that Winfrey took a "secret trip" back to South Africa over the weekend to check on the investigation of abuse allegations at her Leadership Academy for Girls.
Winfrey reportedly met for the first time with the 12-year-old student who first complained of misconduct by a dorm matron. Her mother and father were also present.
"The meeting went well. It took about two hours, and I appreciate that Oprah took time to listen," the girl's father told People magazine. "Oprah looked beautiful and was so easy to talk to. It went very smoothly."
The girl left Oprah's school after her initial attempts to alert school staff of the alleged abuse fell on deaf ears. According to People, the family had not been invited to an emergency meeting in October, at which time Winfrey apologized.
"I am very happy and pleased that Oprah heard our side of the story," the father said of their recent meeting. "We have closure."
Winfrey reportedly had several meetings in addition to her sit-down with the girl and her parents. "I think they are planning new rules and staff for the school," said the girl's father, expressing happiness that his daughter will return to complete eighth grade there.
"I am so excited because we were invited to the end-of-year school party, which will be on Tuesday," the father said. "The other pupils and families knew about the party, but we were never told. So it was a big surprise for us when Oprah asked us to join the party."
The father also said that his daughter will receive counseling and support, as did other students who were abused. The therapy, he said, "will be organized by the school."
He added, "I am happy because at last we had a chance to speak. Oprah resolved everything."
Former dorm matron Tiny Virginia Makopo, 27, was suspended over the girl's allegations involving indecent assault and soliciting under-age girls to commit indecent acts. She faces 13 criminal charges. [eur]

REDSKINS' SEAN TAYLOR DIES

Washington Redskins football player Sean Taylor has died of a gunshot wound he suffered early Monday morning in his Miami home.
Richard Sharpstein, Taylor's attorney and family friend told CNN that Taylor's, father, Peter "Pedro" Taylor, called him about 5 a.m. to tell him the football star was dead.
"His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."
Taylor, 24, died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken after being shot once in the leg early Monday morning. Police are investigating the incident as a possible home invasion.
The bullet severed Taylor's femoral artery, causing massive blood loss. He underwent seven hours of surgery, and there were some initially optimistic signs after he emerged from the operation early Monday evening. Described at first as "unresponsive and unconscious," Taylor had squeezed a doctor's hand and made facial expressions, Redskins officials and a family friend said, providing some hope.
"Maybe he was trying to say goodbye or something," Sharpstein said.
The 24-year-old Redskins safety was shot early Monday in the upper leg, damaging an artery and causing significant blood loss, reports the AP.
Miami-Dade Police were investigating the attack, which came just eight days after an intruder was reported at Taylor's home. Officers were dispatched about 1:45 a.m. Monday after Taylor's girlfriend called 911. Taylor was airlifted to the hospital.
Sharpstein said Taylor's girlfriend told him the couple was awakened by loud noises, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Taylor's 1-year-old daughter, Jackie, was also in the house at the time, but neither she nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured.
According to reports, Monday's incident is the third attempted break-in to occur at his home since last Monday (Nov. 19). [eur]

Lawyers for T.I. were in court last Monday seeking to suppress evidence seized from his vehicle during his Oct. 13 arrest on federal weapons charges.
According to the Associated Press, the motions claim that the evidence against him and statements he made to federal agents were obtained illegally.
Attorneys for the rapper, born Clifford Harris, allege his car was searched with neither a warrant, consent nor probable cause. They also claim that his detention might not have been appropriate, that statements he made to authorities might not have been voluntary and that agents may have failed to honor his rights.

Ne-Yo was informed Monday that he was being permanently removed from his supporting slot on R. Kelly's current Double Up tour, despite overwhelmingly positive reviews received from "entertainment reporters, music critics, bloggers, fans, and concert goers," read a statement from Ne-Yo's rep.
A contractual dispute is the tour's official reason for Ne-Yo's departure. But according to camp Ne-Yo, Kelly fired the singer because he "brought too much heat" for Kelly to compete against.

SALEM, IN—Salem Middle School eighth grader Jeremy Royce, 15, was detained and questioned by police officials for more than three hours Monday in connection with a string of brutal masturbatings in the Salem area."While no arrest has yet been made in the case," said Salem police chief Samuel Harper, "at this time, Mr. Royce very much appears to be our prime suspect."
Ever since it began in March 1997, the string of horrific masturbatings has shaken this tiny farming community in southern Indiana. In the past month alone, some 31 kleenex, three socks, and one baseball cap have been found badly masturbated, some beyond recognition.
According to Harper, Royce became the chief suspect following the discovery of a kleenex on the side of his bed identical to one found in a Salem Public Library men's-room stall and two others found in the second-floor boys' bathroom at Salem Middle School. Like the items previously found, the kleenexes appeared to have been severely masturbated.
A subsequent search of Royce's sock drawer uncovered a number of items that may have been used in the crimes, including a 1982 "Sex In Cinema" issue of Playboy featuring Barbi Benton; a November 1991 issue of Gent; and a picture of ninth-grader Susie Sherwood from the 1997 Salem Middle School yearbook.
"The person who perpetrated these crimes is a deeply disturbed individual, one with no regard for human decency whatsoever," Harper said. "Whoever committed these acts deserves to be put away for a long, long time."

Al Gore Caught Warming Globe To Increase Box Office Profits

Dozens of eyewitness reports indicated that former vice president Al Gore deliberately attempted to raise the earth's temperature in order to boost box office receipts for An Inconvenient Truth, his documentary film about global warming that was released in May.

Blume said that she and many environmentalists had momentarily expressed relief in late November when Gore appeared to cease his months-long practice of dismantling old refrigerators in order to release ozone-destroying freon into the atmosphere. Blume soon learned, however, that Gore had resumed the activity in Antarctica, where the earth's ozone layer is most fragile.
Environmental groups have called for the federal government to step in and put a stop to Gore's actions, but officials say they do not have the power to stop him.
"There is no legal recourse anyone can take against the former vice president," Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said. "Mr. Gore is well within the emissions standards set by the current administration."
By year's end, Gore failed to slow his assault on the planet's delicately balanced climate systems. Satellite surveillance revealed what many believe to be a snowshoed Gore jumping up and down on an ice shelf in Greenland, chainsawing glaciers in the Alaskan wild, and urinating in the Gulf Stream waters off the coast of Newfoundland. Pastor Creflo Dollar Denies Any Wrong Doing

Creflo Dollar responded to allegations of mishandling church funds on CBS' Early Show.
One of 6 mega ministers named in a financial investigation launched by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Dollar is the pastor of World Changers Ministries in College Park, GA. A cooperative Dollar submitted to the probe, but did not understand why a senator was doing the work of the IRS. During the interview pastor Dollar raised a valid question: " ... is it appropriate for [them] to become a tax examiner and to get involved in the information of private, non-profit organizations when the IRS has already been assigned that responsibility?" The audit is aimed at determining how the millions of dollars these ministries takes in is used. Grassley released a statement saying he was acting on complaints from the public and news coverage of the organizations. Dollar easily justified claims the letter asserts when interviewer Julie Chen asked him several specific questions about his possessions and "excessive spending." When asked about the fancy cars he supposedly has, he said he and his wife do not own two Rolls Royces. "The one Rolls-Royce that was purchased was purchased by the donors, or the members of the church, and it was a surprise to me. I had no idea they were doing it," Dollar clarified. When asked if he believes some pastors abuse ministry money, Pastor Dollar maintained there are some "bad apples" out there, but his ministry is not one of them and everyone should not be lumped into the same barrel. The New York Daily News is reporting that rappers Jim Jones and Juelz Santana showed up and showed out at Chris Brown's "Exclusive" album release party at New York's Tenjune on Tuesday night.
According to columnists Rush & Malloy, the rap stars showed up just after the fire marshal said the venue had reached capacity. When security refused to let them inside, Jones reportedly took it personally and got loud.
"You don't disrespect me, n**ga!" he reportedly yelled as he knocked down the security barricade.
"Santana and the entourage then bowled over the three bouncers at the door. Twelve more guys followed and a brawl ensued as they tried to pry open the door of the popular nightspot," the paper reported. 2. If you can't walk or are missing any limbs, sit down until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the time for you to be independent. Nibble on the pecans and walnuts to hold you over until someone makes you a plate.

3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort them to the basement and bring their food down to them. They are not gonna tear my house up this year. Tell them that they are not allowed upstairs until it's time for Uncle Cleophus to start telling family stories about their mommas and papas.

4. There is going to be only one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out of jail. Save that talk for somebody who gives a hoot. The time limit for the prayer is one minute.

5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don't, you will be cursed out and asked to stay your greedy behind home next year!

6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don't let me catch you fixing yourself a plate using my good Tupperware knowing good and well that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn't bring anything over, don't let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding.

7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave my house with anything that doesn't belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!!

8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call DHS on you.

9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and take your behind home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICKED OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring.

2. People who fake the Spirit. Just cause your friend was moved to speak in tonguesdon't mean you gotta speak louder and faster. If you're running around the church and you stop after going only half way around, we all know you haven't beentouched-Holy spirit don't get tired that quick. SIT DOWN!!!

3. People who constantly talk to the pastor during the message. We don't need a commentfrom you after every sentence he makes. We know he's "preaching" and we know he's talking to you." SHUT UP so I can hear him talk to me too.

4. People who constantly go to the bathroom. Nobody has to use thebathroom four times a service. You need DEPENDS. SIT YOURBEHIND DOWN!!!

8. People who come to special church functions and criticize and gossip in a corner about how they could've done a better job.They never volunteered to help with anything anddidn't show up to any invitations to join a ministry. Again, its aggravating and I'm going tohave to ask you to Shut-UP !

9. People who intentionally show they don't like you. In Gods' house, if you don't care fora person, at least put up a decent front; act right in church. Don't cut a fool with your evilfaces and smart comments. God don't like ugly or jealousy.

10. Finally, parents that dress better than their kids. If you come to churchlooking like a model for a fashion show and your baby is walking behind you looking like she belongs on a "Feed the Children" commercialyou're DEAD WRONG. Give your child a "Just For Me perm", wipe hernose and buy the baby something decent to wear. Don'tcome out of the house looking like a MILLION BUCKS while your kid islooking like a FOOD STAMP.

According to the latest government figures, African American couples are divorcing at a higher rate than either whites or Hispanics.
The divorce rate for Blacks currently stands at 12 percent. This compares to 10 percent of white couples divorcing each year and 7 percent of Hispanic couples.
Authorities are not sure why African Americans are separating at a higher rate.
According to other figures published online by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Healthy Marriage Initiative, 42 percent of Black adults are married compared to 61 percent of white adults and 59 percent of Hispanic adults.
Meanwhile, an estimated 68 percent of African American children are born to unmarried women compared to 29 percent of white and 44 percent of Hispanic children.
Also, 62 percent of Black households are headed by a single parent compared to 27 percent of white households and 35 percent of Hispanic households. The government's Healthy Marriage Initiative was created by the Department of Health and Human Services. [eur]

The Dog Caught Using Racial Slurs

After being busted red handed for using racial slurs, Duane "Dog" Chapman finds himself in deep doo doo today. Production of Chapman's Hawaii based reality show, "Dog the Bounty Hunter," has been suspended because he repeatedly dropped the N-word in a tape-recorded phone conversation.
As a direct result, the A&E television network said it stopped production while it investigates the comments by Chapman, who runs Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu and whose appeal as a folk hero has been heightened by the three-year-old show.
The tape was obtained by the National Enquirer and published on its Website on Wednesday. On the tape, an enraged Chapman uses profanities and the racial slur while talking to his son, Tucker about his girlfriend, who is African American. It's not known how the Enquirer obtained the tape. Chapman berates Tucker for his relationship with Monique Shinnery out of concern that Shinnery will set him up because of the language he (Dog) uses.
In a statement released late Wednesday, Chapman didn't dispute the authenticity of the tape and apologized for his use of what he called "a hateful term."
"My sincerest, heartfelt apologies go out to every person I have offended for my regrettable use of very inappropriate language. I am deeply disappointed in myself for speaking out of anger to my son and using such a hateful term in a private phone conversation. It was completely taken out of context. I was disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character. However, I should have never used that term. I have the utmost respect and aloha for black people, who have already suffered so much due to racial discrimination and acts of hatred. I did not mean to add yet another slap in the face to an entire race of people who have brought so many gifts to the world. I am ashamed of myself and I pledge to do whatever I can to repair this damage I have caused."
Ironically, Chapman's pastor, Tim Storey is an African-American. He was contacted by TMZ.com and told TMZ that he spoke with Dog, who cried for 30 minutes.
"I'm shocked, I'm wrong, I repent. Can you believe, Tim, that I'm going to be put in the same category as (Don) Imus'" is what Storey told TMZ that Dog said.
And what does Storey think of Chapman's comments? He says he's shocked.
"I don't know that to be Duane. I felt that he had to be accountable to what he said. When I asked him what took place, why he said it, he said that he was angry with his son about many things."
Meanwhile, since he now finds himself in the same category as Imus, it looks like Dog has taken a page from Imus' book, so to speak. According to TMZ he has already contacted Rev. Al Sharpton, hoping to explain the racist telephone call he made to his son. However, based on the tepid response from Sharpton's National Action Network, it's not immediately clear that he will get involved [ eur]

Two people were arrested in the melee that took place Saturday night (Oct. 27) during a Harvard Society of Black Scientists and Engineers (HSBSE) step-show afterparty in the Lowell House dining hall on campus, reports the Harvard Crimson.
According to Cambridge police spokesman Frank T. Pasquarello, the suspects were not students of the university and were later released without charges.
Witnesses said the party was going along fine until "Knuck If You Buck" began playing.
"That’s a song where everybody goes wild," said Northwestern student and witness Jarred M. Watson. "The crowd started touching each other and bumping into each other. Then I saw a whole bunch of people screaming, and I saw people fighting."
The knucking and bucking got out of control and led to more brawls that took place in the Lowell courtyard. More than 20 patrol cars – Including six state police cruisers as well as Harvard University Police Department vehicles – arrived on the scene to evacuate the crowd, according to HSBSE president Devin D. Smith.
No one was injured during the various altercations, which capped off an event that attracted at least 400 guests from Harvard and other colleges, including Boston University, Boston College, Emerson, MIT, and Lesley University. [eur]

Obama's Crew Says No To Brad Pitt

*The New York Daily News is reporting that Barack Obama's campaign turned down an offer from Brad Pitt to make appearances on the candidate's behalf, however, it's unknown whether the Illinois Senator was even aware of the actor's request.
A source for the newspaper said Obama's advisers felt Pitt was "a great guy," but they didn't want their candidate - who already has the endorsements of Pitt homies George Clooney and Matt Damon - to appear to be "too Hollywood."
When asked about the slight, Damon told the Daily News: "I'm supporting Obama, and I thought George [Clooney] said it really well when he spoke to the senator. He said, ‘I'll support you in any way I can, including staying at home and shutting my mouth.'
"I'd like to help him - I think he's a wonderful man and would be a great leader, and I'd reiterate what George says: I'll help him in any way I can, including getting out of the way."
